The upcoming Music Festival in India is a perfect example of how music can enlighten minds, unite hearts and support a cause!

What: A large scale music festival is being organised in India as a part of ‘Aman Ki Asha’ initiative – an Indo-Pak Peace Project with the aim of using music to come together and unite.

Concept: Music artists and well known music maestros from either side of the India and Pak border will come together to perform.

NY indie folk band ORBA SQUARA will be performing two free shows as part of CMJ 2009 in support of their new album THE TROUBLE WITH FLYING, available October 27.

CMJ Event Details:

·         October 23rd – “The Village Voice Free Day Show” – The Knitting Factory (361 Metropolitan Ave Brooklyn, NY 11211). Set time is 2:00pm. Other bands on the bill include Headlights (3pm) and Shaky Hands (4pm)

·         October 24 – “CMJ Official Night Show” – The Living Room (154 Ludlow St New York, NY 10002). Set time is 10:00pm.

About Orba Squara: In case you aren’t familiar with the band, Orba Squara is the musical alter ego of Mitch Davis, an independent New York-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist. If Davis’s name doesn’t ring a bell (yet), his artistry most certainly will: “Perfect Timing,” a track from Orba Squara’s 2007 debut, sunshyness, was featured in 9 spots for the first TV campaign for the iPhone (see one of them here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrcsQvZz06g). On the new album, Davis finds inspiration from simple things in life, like his collection of acoustic guitars, toy pianos, bells, melodicas and other instruments picked up at stores (including a sitar bought on a trip to Japan) and flea markets. Special guest, rocker Billy Squier, plays guitar and sings on a few songs on the album including the title track and “Tell Me” which Davis wrote with Squier’s vocal style in mind. After a fortuitous meeting backstage, Davis handed his childhood hero a copy of sunshyness and the two started collaborating.
