“There have been some incredible touring successes in 2011, and fans have shown that they still love to watch their favorite artists perform live,” says Ray Waddell, Executive Director of Content and Programming, Touring and Live Entertainment, for Billboard. “With their strong connection with the concert-going public, Eventful is uniquely qualified to gauge fan demand and determine the winner of the 2011 Fans’ Choice Award.”

“We’re excited to work with Billboard to honor the leading touring acts of 2011,” said Eventful CEO Jordan Glazier. “We love helping fans discover and enjoy live music and by working with Billboard we’re able to let the fans voice their opinion regarding which artist put on the best tour of the year.”

SHAKIRA TO BE HONORED AS THE 2011 LATIN RECORDING ACADEMY® PERSON OF THE YEAR

For Immediate Release
The 12th Annual Tribute Gala Will Be Held on Nov. 9 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas as Part of This Year’s Latin GRAMMY® Week Celebration

MIAMI (Sept. 26, 2011) — Three-time current Latin GRAMMY® nominee, seven-time Latin GRAMMY winner, two-time GRAMMY® winner, and international superstar and philanthropist Shakira will be the 2011 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year, it was announced today by The Latin Recording Academy® (www.latingrammy.com). Shakira, who is currently nominated for three Latin GRAMMY Awards, including Album Of The Year, will be honored for her renowned artistic and philanthropic contributions at a tribute dinner and star-studded concert on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Songs from Shakira’s still growing catalog will be performed by notable artists and friends of the honoree. A major portion of the net proceeds from the gala will benefit Shakira’s Pies Descalzos Foundation as well as The Latin Recording Academy’s Latin GRAMMY in the Schools educational efforts. The celebration will precede the 12th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, which will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on the Univision Network on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. For breaking news and exclusive content, join The Latin Academy’s social networks as a Twitter follower at www.twitter.com/latingrammys, and a Facebook fan at www.facebook.com/latingrammys.

“I am elated on behalf of The Latin Recording Academy and its Board of Trustees that the much admired Shakira — whose incredible talent and artistic integrity are equaled only by her commitment and dedication to philanthropy and selflessly helping those in need — has been elected the 2011 Latin Recording Academy’s Peron of the Year,” said Gabriel Abaroa Jr., President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy. “We are honored to pay homage to this dynamic, socially conscious woman whose illustrious career has touched so many people around the world, both musically and personally.”

“It is truly an honor to be in the company of some of the greatest artists and legends of Latin Music,” said Shakira about this one-of-a-kind distinction.

Born in Colombia, Shakira showed early talent in school as a live performer, demonstrating her vocal ability already combining rock, Latin and Mediterranean influences with her own original twist on belly dancing. As a singer/songwriter, dancer, producer and musician, she emerged on the international music scene in the early ’90s. In 1996, Shakira released Pies Descalzos, featuring the hit singles “Estoy Aqui” and “Se Quiere…Se Mata” both topping the Billboard Latin Pop Airplay chart. Her next album, Dónde Están Los Ladrones? proved an even bigger success. Following was the release of her first live album in 2000, Shakira: MTV Unplugged, which spawned her first GRAMMY Award® for Best Latin Pop Album. At the inaugural Latin GRAMMY Awards ceremony in 2000, Shakira received her first two Latin GRAMMY Awards. Without skipping a beat, she released her first crossover album, Laundry Service, in 2001, which became the most successful album of her career to date. Her next, Fijacíon Oral Vol. 1, in 2005, featured the hit single “La Tortura” with singer/songwriter and musician Alejandro Sanz. The album and single earned her four Latin GRAMMY Awards. Shortly thereafter, she released Oral Fixation Vol. 2, which included the worldwide hit “Hips Don’t Lie” in collaboration with musician/producer Wyclef Jean. In 2009, she released She Wolf and quickly following on the heels of that project she released Sale e Sol in 2010. In addition to her busy recording schedule, Shakira has taken the world by storm with many successful global concert tours.

Shakira’s numerous philanthropic efforts began at age 18 when she founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation, a charity providing special schools for underprivileged children throughout Colombia. She is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, chosen for her involvement in global issues and her deep commitment to helping children. As an advocate for universal education, she served as Honorary Chairperson for the Global Campaign for Education, generating awareness for the U.S. Education for All Act in 2007. She has performed at many benefit concerts, and at the 2007 Clinton Global Initiative, Shakira received a commitment of $40 million from the Spanish government to help the victims of natural disasters. An additional $5 million was to be donated to four Latin American countries, to be spent on education and health. In its December 2008/January 2009 issue, People En Español announced Shakira as the “Humanitarian of the Year” as part of its Las Estrellas del Año (Stars of the Year) awards. On her 32nd birthday, Shakira opened a new $6 million school in her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia, which she sponsored along with her Pies Descalzos Foundation.

Shakira will have the distinction of becoming the youngest artist to receive the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year honoree. She joins a list of artists that includes Plácido Domingo, Carlos Santana Gloria Estefan, Gilberto Gil, Julio Iglesias, and Ricky Martin, among others.

About Shakira’s Philanthropy
The mission of Shakira’s foundations (Fundación Pies Descalzos in Columbia, Barefoot Foundation in the United States) is to ensure that every child can exercise his or her right to a quality education through advocacy and direct programming worldwide. More than 5,000 students receive nutritious meals, education and psychological support services, ultimately benefiting 30,000 vulnerable children, their families and community members who have all been affected by population displacement. Additionally, across Latin America, Shakira helped form ALAS (América Latina en Acción Solidaria), which is a coalition of artists and business leaders who are urging governments and philanthropists to increase their spending on early childhood development. Early childhood development programs ensure that young children have the basic healthcare, stimulation and nutrition needed to grow and enter school ready to learn.

LOS ANGELES (Feb. 16, 2011) – The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) — a national union of more than 70,000 professional performers, recording artists and broadcastersworking in the entertainment and news media — today announced the recipients of the AFTRA Foundation’s 2011 AFTRA Media and Entertainment Excellence Awards (The AMEES).

Receiving honors will be Spanish-language Dodgers broadcaster Jaime Jarrín, “America’s Most Wanted” host John Walsh and recording artist David Crosby. The honorees will receive their awards at the AMEES dinner gala benefit for the AFTRA Foundation at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on March 21.

“The AFTRA Foundation is thrilled to honor three such highly talented AFTRA members,” said Shelby Scott, AFTRA Foundation President and former AFTRA National President. “Jaime, John and David have each made great contributions to their respective fields of work, to their Union and to society as a whole.”

About the Honorees
JAIME JARRÍN – AMEE Award in Broadcasting
Jaime Jarrín – “the Spanish Voice of the Dodgers” – is the 2011 recipient of the AMEE Award in Broadcasting.
Born in Quito, Ecuador, Jarrín began his broadcast career at age 16, working for HCJB in his home country. Jarrín came to the United States in 1955 and soon after began working for KWKW in Los Angeles, where he was the news and sports director when the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958, the same year he joined AFTRA. He became the club’s No. 1 Spanish-language broadcaster in 1973.

Jarrín has been the recipient of many honors over his career, including induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998 in Cooperstown, NY as the recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award. Jarrín was also named as baseball’s all-time best Spanish-language broadcaster based on “longevity, continuity, network coverage, kudos, language, popularity, persona, voice knowledge and miscellany.” He was rated 28th overall among all broadcasters.

In addition to his work calling Dodger games, Jarrín has been at the center of many international news broadcasts, including the funeral of President John F. Kennedy, Pope John Paul II’s visit to America and several important meetings between foreign leaders and Presidents Richard Nixon and Lyndon B. Johnson. He served as the interpreter from 1980-81 for Mexican pitching phenom Fernando Valenzuela. Valenzuela, also an AFTRA member, became an analyst in 2003 and continues to work alongside Jarrín.

Jarrín has also called more than 30 world championship boxing title bouts throughout the world for radio and television stations in Latin America, including the “Thrilla in Manila” between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. He has called 19 All-Star Games and 25 World Series, including the 2005 Fall Classic in which he served as the emcee for MLB’s Latin Legends ceremony. His broadcasts of the All-Star Game, League Championship Series and World Series on CBS, the Latina Broadcasting Network, Cadena Latina and Caracol and 1989 to 1999 were carried on more than 300 stations. In March 2006, Jarrín served as a play-by-play announcer for the inaugural World Baseball Classic.

JOHN WALSH – AMEE Award in Entertainment
“America’s Most Wanted” host John Walsh is the 2011 recipient of the AMEE Award in Entertainment.
A member of AFTRA since 1986, Walsh is known internationally as a crime fighter and victims’ rights advocate and the host of “America’s Most Wanted” – the groundbreaking reality program that’s helped law enforcement capture more than 1,100 dangerous fugitives and brought home more than 50 missing children since its debut in 1988. He never sought the role, but this has been his life since July 27, 1981 – the day his only child, Adam, was abducted from a mall near his home in Hollywood, Florida. Adam was found murdered two weeks later. Born in Auburn, New York and educated at the University of Buffalo, Walsh moved to Florida with his wife, Revé, and had been a successful hotel developer before Adam’s tragic murder.

The Walshes’ experience showed them that the nation was in desperate need of leadership in the fight to protect children. Out of their pain, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was created in 1984, after President Ronald Reagan signed the “Missing Children’s Assistance Act.” The NCMEC is the premier child protection non-profit, providing invaluable resources to parents, children and law enforcement in the United States and internationally.

A hero to law enforcement, Walsh has been honored numerous times by many local, state and federal agencies.
DAVID CROSBY – AMEE Award in Sound Recordings
Music legend David Crosby is the recipient of the 2011 AMEE Award in Sound Recordings.

A founding member of two seminal rock bands – the Byrds and Crosby Stills and Nash – Crosby is a two-time inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When the singer/songwriter stepped onstage in front of some 500,000 music and life-celebrating fans at Woodstock in 1969 as part of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young – Crosby both shared and contributed to what many see as the generation’s defining moment. In the three decades that followed, he’s continued to be an artistic firebrand with over a dozen albums by Crosby, Stills and Nash, and CSNY, solo projects and duet albums with fellow band member Graham Nash.

The son of Academy Award-winning cinematographer Floyd Crosby (“High Noon,” “Tabu,” among others), the performer grew up in Santa Barbara, and then migrated south to Los Angeles during the folk music revival of the early 60’s. During this period he also traveled extensively throughout the United States as a solo singer/songwriter, honing his craft alongside such luminaries as Fred Neil, Cass Elliot, Bob Dylan and many others, performing dates at college hootenannies and smoke-filled coffeehouses. After returning to LA, in 1963, he eventually joined forces with fellow musicians Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, Chris Hillman, and Michael Clarke as the Byrds — a ground-breaking band that virtually gave birth to the Folk/Rock genre, possibly the most important wave in pop music during the mid-60’s.

In 1968, Crosby had begun writing songs with Stephen Stills, who at the time partnered with Neil Young in Buffalo Springfield. The pair knew they had struck musical gold when they invited singer-songwriter Graham Nash, from the British band the Hollies, to add his voice to theirs on two songs, “Helplessly Hoping” and “You Don’t Have To Cry.”

The trio released their debut album in 1969, Crosby, Stills and Nash. The group’s unprecedented sound, superb musicianship and collection of enduring original songs sent the album straight to number one on the charts. That summer, Neil Young joined the congregation, and the Woodstock performance cemented their identity as an iconic presence in rock music, and thirty years of successful tours and albums have repeatedly reaffirmed that fact.

In 1970, Crosby also released his solo debut, “…If I Could Only Remember My Name,” a record that is still considered one of the greatest albums of the 1970’s. Although overflowing with sterling guest performances by Neil Young, Graham Nash as well as members of Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead and Santana, the innovative album clearly illustrated how much Crosby had grown as a truly original and imaginative musician.
Crosby still tours and records solo, with Crosby/Nash, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

This Spring and Fall he will be touring with Graham Nash (Crosby/Nash); the pair have just launched a new record label, Blue Castle Records, and are releasing a recording of a show they performed at Dorothy Pavilion in 1971. The Album, “Another Stoney Evening,” will be released on March 22.

Nashville, TN – (February 16, 2011) – Fervent Records and reigning Dove Awards Female Vocalist of the Year Francesca Battistelli hopes to have a ‘hundred more years’ like 2011 with scoring four Dove Award nominations in the following categories: Artist Of The Year, Female Vocalist Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song Of The Year for the smash hit “Beautiful Beautiful” Also adding to this year’s list of exciting news, Battistelli will release her sophomore album Hundred More Years, available everywhere beginning March 1.

“It is such an incredible honor to be nominated and I’m so thankful for the hundreds of blessings that have come into my life this year,” shares Battistelli. “And to hear the great news in Atlanta surrounded by family and friends makes it even more special.”

The 42nd Annual Dove Awards show will be taped live at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA, on April 20th and broadcast on The Gospel Music Channel (GMC) on Sunday, April 24th at 8:00 p.m. EST.
Battistelli’s new single “This Is The Stuff” is already a Top 5 smash at radio and is the perfect introduction to an album that takes the treasures of her debut My Paper Heart one-step further. Working with producer Ian Eskelin, she has crafted a CD that is every bit as hooky and infectious as its predecessor but whose subject matter, as befitting a young woman whose life has changed so dramatically, addresses a wider spectrum of the human experience.

My Paper Heart released to rave reviews and has since earned Battistelli a Grammy nomination (Best Gospel Song Performance), 2 Dove Awards and 11 Dove Award nominations in a two-year period. Her debut delivered the smash No. 1 single “Free To Be Me” and hit singles “It’s Your Life,” “I’m Letting Go” and “Beautiful, Beautiful.” With over 400,000 copies sold and well over 840,000 downloads to date, Battistelli has become the best-selling new artist in the genre in the past eight years. Her music has also been featured on Jon & Kate Plus 8, ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, NBC’s The Biggest Loser, Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance, and several other television and movie outlets.

For Immediate Release

Wins for Best Contemporary Jazz Album for The Stanley Clarke Band

Hollywood, CA, February 13, 2010—Jazz bass legend Stanley Clarke won a Grammy® Award in ceremonies held this evening at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, streamed line online worldwide and broadcast live in the US on CBS-TV. Clarke received his award in Category 44, Best Contemporary Jazz Album, for the full-length album The Stanley Clarke Band on the Heads Up International label. For a complete list of winners visit: www.grammy.com.

“I’m grateful on behalf of the whole band for this honor. It’s humbling to be in such strong company.” Clarke said while on tour with his seminal group Return to Forever in Australia. “It’s so gratifying to see that jazz and instrumental music remain such vibrant and exciting musical forms, and that we could contribute to their vitality. I’d like to thank the members of the Stanley Clarke Band: keyboardist Ruslan Sirota; drummer Ronald Bruner, Jr.; pianist Hiromi Uehara and the rest of the performers on this album. I’d also like to thank my wife Sofi, who’s been such a strong supporter of my career, and my children, who are also making their paths in the arts.” Members of The Stanley Clarke Band were on hand to accept the award from the podium in Los Angeles.

Other players on the Grammy-winning album include vocalist Cheryl Bentyne; guitarists Charles Altura, Rob Bacon and Armand Sabal-Lecco; saxophonist Bob Sheppard; bass synthesizer Lorenzo “Larry” Dunn; keyboardist Felton Pilate; horn players Andrew Lippman and John Paperbook; and drum programmers Chris Clarke and Jon Hakakian.

Clarke, whose prodigious talent, 40 albums and 60 film scores have made him one of the most recognized and respected names in the annals of contemporary music, recently formed a music label, Roxboro Entertainment Group, named for his Philadelphia high school. The first two artists on the label—guitarist Lloyd Gregory and multi-instrumentalist Kennard Ramsey—have just released albums; the next two albums will come from keyboardist Sunnie Paxson and Ruslan Sirota, pianist, arranger and keyboardist on The Stanley Clarke Band. Clarke also recently awarded two $12,000 scholarships to high school music students Zech Hogan and Jon Williams through The Stanley Clarke Foundation. http://www.stanleyclarke.com.
