Sunburn Dance Music Festival Joins Hands with United Social Awareness Foundation

Sunburn, Asia’s biggest electronic dance music festival, comes together with United for an initiative ‘Leave no Trace’ urging one and all to recycle, reuse and restore.

Asia’s premier electronic dance music festival to be held between December 27th to 29th, 2011 on Candolim Beach in Goa ~

Mumbai, November 2011: Sunburn, Asia’s biggest electronic dance music festival, is joining hands with United, a social awareness foundation, to inculcate a sense of environmental responsibility in the minds of the youth through its “Leave No Trace” campaign. Through the simple & smart principles of “recycle, reuse and restore”, Sunburn is furthering United’s cause of spreading awareness on an eco- friendly lifestyle with the entire Sunburn community.

A step towards being more environmentally responsible, “Leave no Trace” reaches out to the free-spirited youthful fans of Sunburn to make it one of the most eco- friendly festivals in Asia. Along with recycling garbage cans for plastic, glass and other items spread across Candolim Beach, the alcohol glasses at Sunburn will have captions like “Trash Me” and “I Deserve a Bin”. Volunteers along with Sunburn enthusiasts will have the opportunity to clean the venue during and after the event, to restore the beach to its original beauty.

The Sunburn crowd will also be paying their respects to the “Leave no Trace” campaign as the entire lighting of the Sunburn event will be switched off for five minutes, with the crowds waving neon sticks to pledge their support for energy conversation. There will be an innovatively created tree structure at the Sunburn venue, where people can interactively participate in the campaign, leaving messages and tips on how to make “Leave no Trace” part of your daily lives. Also, the famous flea markets at Sunburn will also be part of the campaign with the “Leave no Trace Library”, where people can donate and borrow books, thus promoting reusing of paper.

The above to assist the Starkey Hearing Foundation in delivering the gift of hearing as part of its Las Vegas Hearing Mission, which is sponsored by the Las Vegas Hilton, Associated Television International, and the Daytime Emmy’s (National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences).

WHAT: More than 100 hearing-impaired children and adults ages two to 53 from the Las Vegas area will hear and experience sound – many for the first time – as a team of audiologists and volunteers from the Starkey Hearing Foundation fit each patient with a custom-made, state-of-the-art hearing aid. Working alongside the Starkey Hearing Foundation to assist in the fittings will be Celebrity Volunteers and Hearing Ambassadors (listed above), each of whom will be paired with at least one recipient during the mission to witness the moment a patient hears for the first time, while providing support and encouragement as each recipient is fitted with their new hearing aid, receives audio testing, and is provided with counseling and instruction on how to care for their new device.

Joins Forces with Philanthropist Howard Buffett to Promote Education in Colombia

April 12, 2011 – – Renowned Colombian born singer, songwriter, and philanthropist Shakira visited Cartagena, Colombia along with philanthropist Howard Buffett, the mayor of the city Judith Pinedo and members of her Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation to lay the first brick of what will be its new mammoth school in an area of high vulnerability and displacement in this coastal Colombian city.

The project is set to become an urban milestone, a motor of change for 1,500 boys and girls who will benefit directly and 58,000 residents of the community. Shakira expressed, “I know that the world, little by little will understand that wherever there is a kid who is hungry and can’t attend school…that kid should be a concern to all of us and our responsibility. I’m sure that this awareness will grow in each one of us, because the world has become a small neighborhood, and we should all be concerned about the issues that others have to face.”

The school and community center, designed by renowned architect Giancarlo Mazzanti, will be built on a site spanning 7,500 meters squared where students and parents will enjoy classrooms, laboratories, technology and audiovisual centers; multiple sporting fields, teachers and administration, as well as ample space for recreation, art and sports in accordance with the educational philosophy of Pies Descalzos.

This project attempts to initiate the transformation of its surrounding area to become an urban milestone, a symbol of the city that will generate pride and a sense of ownership in its residents.

Supported by the private sector and various partners the foundation has been laid for the Foundation’s sixth school in Colombia, the recently begun school in Haiti, and the future in South Africa to develop quality public education with nutrition and generation of funds, which are the pillars of the educational model of its founder.

With the commencement of this project, Shakira, in the company of great allies, partners and benefactors, continues to support children around the world in obtaining the opportunity to enjoy a dignified education, sustained by an innovative model of community centers that also benefit entire families within zones vulnerable to conflict.

The Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation currently provides education and nutrition to over six thousand impoverished children in Colombia and is expanding its work to other countries, including newly launched projects in Haiti and South Africa.

“The 20-10 Tour” kicks offon July 28th in Washington D.C., and is named because the first 2,010 reserved seats are $20 all-in. This means fans pay a flat rate with no added service charges, and the remaining seats will be priced at $20 or $10, plus applicable ticketing fees.

The Women’s Conference 2010 will kick off on Sunday, October 24 with Maria Shriver’s March on Alzheimer’s and candlelight vigil in the Shoreline Village area of Long Beach. Joining Maria Shriver will be Event Emcee Leeza Gibbons and Event Co-Chairs, actor Peter Gallagher and Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines. Additional celebrity co-chairs and event entertainment will be announced in the coming weeks. Maria Shriver has been a long-time advocate for families like hers who are struggling with Alzheimer’s and the march will bring together thousands of families, friends, caregivers, community members and conference attendees to raise funds and awareness to fight the disease. A minimum donation of $25 is required to sign-up for the march and all participants will be encouraged to raise additional funds to support the work of the Alzheimer’s Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research.

“Alzheimer’s is a mind-blowing disease that disproportionately impacts women – both as victims and caretakers of loved one’s suffering from it,” said Shriver. “With more than 5 million people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in this country and a new diagnosis every 70 seconds, I believe it’s time to pick up the pace and start marching to defeat this devastating disease.”

On Sunday evening, October 24, the first day of The Women’s Conference 2010 will culminate with the presentation of its inaugural Night at the Theater event. Night at the Theater will feature a star-studded live performance of “Love, Loss, and What I Wore,” the intimate collection of stories written by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron based on the book by Ilene Beckerman. Additional information about the event, including venue, ticket information and confirmed cast, will be announced later this summer.

On Monday, October 25, the second day of the conference will begin with A Day of Health, Wellness & Transformation,which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.Due to popular demand, the second-annual event will be doubled in size to more than 3,200 attendees. Hosted by Maria Shriver and organized around the theme of “It’s Time…To Take Action,” the event will feature more than 20 world-class issue experts leading interactive sessions packed with practical tips, tools and takeaways for how attendees can transform themselves personally and professionally and become Architects of Change in their lives. New Delhi, June 02, 2010: As 94.3 MY FM turned four with the anniversary of its first station in Jaipur, the radio station continued its resolve of celebrating occasions through CSR initiatives under ‘Koshish Dil Se’. 94.3 MY FM Jaipur took up the cause of water scarcity, a vital issue in the state of Rajasthan. The activities also marked the maturation of the medium in these markets where people are now ready to embrace the role of radio at a level much higher than mere entertainment.

94.3 MY FM’s OB jocks went around town with water tankers supplying water to various colonies while interacting with the residents about the shortage of water and ways and means to use water efficiently. Residents of the city were required to SMS their name and locality to call for these tankers. The total of 350 households of Jaipur was approached for water distribution.

The celebration also included an interesting contest where the on-air RJ made a pledge to save water and the listeners had to call in and repeat the pledge. Lucky winners who took the pledge were gratified with mobile handsets.

Taking this activity to next level, the station also talked about water born diseases & hence the importance of the usage of clean water at home, especially for drinking. There were different contests around this issue and around 100 water purifiers from OSO water system were given away to winners.

The entire set of activities took place during the week of celebrations of MY FM Jaipur’s anniversary on May 28, 2010. Residents of the Pink City joined in the celebrations and the honorable CM Sh. Ashok Gehlot had words of appreciation for the efforts of MY FM.
