New York, NY (April 17, 2012) – Esquire, the original men’s magazine and the premier authority on men’s style, has assembled a talented and wide-ranging group of musicians to participate in the magazine’s Third Annual Songwriting Challenge in the May issue (on newsstands April 24). For this one-of-a-kind style feature, Anthony Hamilton (Grammy Award-winning R&B singer), Chris Daughtry (multi-platinum Top 40 heavyweight), Craig Finn (lead singer of The Hold Steady), Sam Roberts (multi-platinum Canadian singer-songwriter), and Rhett Miller (lead singer of the Old 97s) convened in the Coachella Valley outside of Los Angeles for a two day shoot with world-famous photographer Danny Clinch.

Additionally, each artist accepted The Esquire Songwriting Challenge: write, perform, and record an original song inspired by the title of the fashion portfolio, “Pacific Standard Time.” Track titles include:

In addition, Hearst Magazines will be matching all donations up to $10,000.

Foundation for New Jewish Music Shalshelet Announces 2013 Fifth International Music Festival

Shalshelet, the Foundation for New Jewish Music, is proud to announce the 2013 Fifth International Music Festival on February 16-17th is being held at Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus in North Miami Beach!

March 5th, 2012: Miami, FL– Shalshelet, the Foundation for New Jewish Music, is proud to announce that musical submissions for the 2013 Fifth International Festival, being held at the Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus in North Miami Beach on February 16-17th, are now officially open. The Shalshelet organization has been steadily growing since it’s beginnings, tallying a total of about 400 submissions last year, and has been held in various areas of the United States, with prior Festivals attracting skilled international composers from around the world, ranging from ages 17 to 87.

The beautiful concept behind Shalshelet’s creative process is that it allows musical composers to introduce new, unique melodies to traditional Jewish blessings that have been around for centuries. Shalshelet allows individuals with a passion for music to foster their abilities by submitting their own tunes in singular form; one that has never before been heard or shared among congregations. Composer honorees are given the opportunity not only to share their music by performing at the Festival, but also to participate in workshops with other music lovers from diverse communities and traditions, and to celebrate the joy of music. The workshops allow performers, musicians, and music enthusiasts to explore the process of choosing a text and composing a new melody, comparing different ways of setting the same passage to music, and hearing melodies for less commonly sung texts.

Song books and CDs based on winning submissions from the selected Festival Honorees are then distributed to cantors around the globe, who teach their congregations this new form of music. An organization to fuel the rise of the middle class musician

Sunburn Dance Music Festival Joins Hands with United Social Awareness Foundation

“Leave no Trace” pledges Sunburn 2011

Sunburn, Asia’s biggest electronic dance music festival, comes together with United for an initiative ‘Leave no Trace’ urging one and all to recycle, reuse and restore.

Mumbai, November 2011: Sunburn, Asia’s biggest electronic dance music festival, is joining hands with United, a social awareness foundation, to inculcate a sense of environmental responsibility in the minds of the youth through its “Leave No Trace” campaign. Through the simple & smart principles of “recycle, reuse and restore”, Sunburn is furthering United’s cause of spreading awareness on an eco- friendly lifestyle with the entire Sunburn community.

A step towards being more environmentally responsible, “Leave no Trace” reaches out to the free-spirited youthful fans of Sunburn to make it one of the most eco- friendly festivals in Asia. Along with recycling garbage cans for plastic, glass and other items spread across Candolim Beach, the alcohol glasses at Sunburn will have captions like “Trash Me” and “I Deserve a Bin”. Volunteers along with Sunburn enthusiasts will have the opportunity to clean the venue during and after the event, to restore the beach to its original beauty.

The Sunburn crowd will also be paying their respects to the “Leave no Trace” campaign as the entire lighting of the Sunburn event will be switched off for five minutes, with the crowds waving neon sticks to pledge their support for energy conversation. There will be an innovatively created tree structure at the Sunburn venue, where people can interactively participate in the campaign, leaving messages and tips on how to make “Leave no Trace” part of your daily lives. Also, the famous flea markets at Sunburn will also be part of the campaign with the “Leave no Trace Library”, where people can donate and borrow books, thus promoting reusing of paper.
