“Leave no Trace” pledges Sunburn 2011

Sunburn, Asia’s biggest electronic dance music festival, comes together with United for an initiative ‘Leave no Trace’ urging one and all to recycle, reuse and restore.

Asia’s premier electronic dance music festival to be held between December 27th to 29th, 2011 on Candolim Beach in Goa ~

Mumbai, November 2011: Sunburn, Asia’s biggest electronic dance music festival, is joining hands with United, a social awareness foundation, to inculcate a sense of environmental responsibility in the minds of the youth through its “Leave No Trace” campaign. Through the simple & smart principles of “recycle, reuse and restore”, Sunburn is furthering United’s cause of spreading awareness on an eco- friendly lifestyle with the entire Sunburn community.

A step towards being more environmentally responsible, “Leave no Trace” reaches out to the free-spirited youthful fans of Sunburn to make it one of the most eco- friendly festivals in Asia. Along with recycling garbage cans for plastic, glass and other items spread across Candolim Beach, the alcohol glasses at Sunburn will have captions like “Trash Me” and “I Deserve a Bin”. Volunteers along with Sunburn enthusiasts will have the opportunity to clean the venue during and after the event, to restore the beach to its original beauty.

The Sunburn crowd will also be paying their respects to the “Leave no Trace” campaign as the entire lighting of the Sunburn event will be switched off for five minutes, with the crowds waving neon sticks to pledge their support for energy conversation. There will be an innovatively created tree structure at the Sunburn venue, where people can interactively participate in the campaign, leaving messages and tips on how to make “Leave no Trace” part of your daily lives. Also, the famous flea markets at Sunburn will also be part of the campaign with the “Leave no Trace Library”, where people can donate and borrow books, thus promoting reusing of paper.

Commenting on the “Leave no Trace” campaign, Mr. Shailendra Singh, Joint Managing Director, Percept Limited said, “We are very proud to partner with United for the “Leave no Trace” campaign. Through Sunburn, we are able to reach out the future generation of the youth, and make them aware of the importance of environmental sustainability. This is a very crucial goal, and we are honored to use Sunburn as a platform for the youth to make a positive change in the world. ”

Sunburn’s “Leave no Trace” campaign along with United is all about inculcating these simple principles of “recycle, reuse and restore” into our daily lifestyles and respect the environment as it is our own backyard. This is Sunburn’s attempts to channelize the energy of the youth that the festival thrives on & to bring them together to create a better planet.

Taylor Guitars and Guitar Center Team Up to Find the Nation’s Top Unsigned Talent

EL CAJON, Calif. – October 3, 2011 - Taylor Guitars and Guitar Center, the world’s largest retailer of musical instruments and equipment, has announced “Guitar Center Singer-Songwriter,” an artist discovery program which aims to find the nation’s best unsigned singer-songwriter. Along with other leading musical instrument and accessory manufacturers, Taylor Guitars will join Guitar Center to award one career-altering prize package to the top singer-songwriter, which includes a three-song EP with Grammy Award-winning producer John Shanks, worldwide distribution through TuneCore, $10,000 cash, and gear from participating companies, including a Taylor 814ce for the grand prize winner and GS Minis for the semi-finalists. The contest, which is part of the companies’ shared mission to support emerging artists, kicks off on October 3 and runs through November 30. Artists can sign up today at www.guitarcenter.com/songwriter.

For Grammy-winning producer and Taylor-strummer John Shanks (914ce, Baritone 8-String, 855ce), it’s easy to relate to what an opportunity like this can mean to an up-and-coming artist. Shanks, once a session and touring guitarist for the likes of Melissa Etheridge, has gone on to build a stellar career as a hit-maker whose resume boasts 60 million records sold, 43 No. 1 singles and 67 No. 1 albums with artists including Sheryl Crow, Colbie Caillat, Kelly Clarkson, Keith Urban, Bon Jovi and Alanis Morissette. As the judge of the contest, finding the next headline act is no easy task, but one Shanks is excited to be involved in. “I’m thrilled to be able to help Guitar Center give a potentially career-altering opportunity to an unsigned artist,” says Shanks. “Helping an artist hone their sound is something I relish as a producer, and I can’t wait to see what the winner has to offer.”

“So much great talent abounds in today’s music scene that we’re excited to partner with Guitar Center to find the next big name and help propel that artist to the next step in their career,” shares Tim Godwin, director of artist and entertainment relations at Taylor Guitars.”No matter if an artist is a headline act or just starting out, here at Taylor, artists are a big part of our extended family of players.”

As part of the contest, Guitar Center has commissioned WHOOZNXT.com, a leading digital music company, to power the first round of the competition. WHOOZNXT.com is the first platform to track an artist’s fan growth across top social networks and music portals. Competing artists will be ranked based on their online fan growth during the first round. Ten singer-songwriters will then be hand-selected by Shanks from the list of top-ranked artists to travel to Los Angeles, where they will perform live during event’s finale.

Vocal Trash – Environmental Performers – This Dynamic ‘Green Team’ Recycles imaginations while Redefining The Meaning Of High Octane Entertainment

Fort Worth, TX, September 16, 2011 – Vocal Trash is a unique troupe of environmental performers who have been engaging audiences nationwide with their exciting brand of entertainment. They have made guest appearances on Fox 21 in Colorado, on Good Morning Texas, and been featured in various newspaper articles.

2011 marks the tenth anniversary of this exciting, energetic group whose music is a mixture of pop, rock, swing and classic oldies that relates to all ages and crosses many cultural barriers. During this ten year period they have not only brought top rate, upbeat entertainment to audiences, but have used their music to make a positive influence on children by bringing awareness to our planet – quite a legacy to leave for future generations.

Their combination of traditional instruments together with a percussion section made of trash cans, metal objects, water bottles and other recycled items, makes a uniquely exciting presentation that teaches children to use their imagination in a meaningful and lasting way when it comes to recycling. By incorporating items that would normally end up in a landfill into their performance, they have created a powerful tool to reach young minds and made it fun!

Their energetic, high octane show is a hit at every venue – whether it’s Vegas, Madison Square Garden, State Fairs or corporate events. In demand nationwide, Vocal Trash plays to a full house at every performance. Audiences love their unique blend of first class singing, industrial style drumming, comedy antics, and award-winning break-dancing – described as “Glee with a kick!” “It’s an energy thing,” says creator Steve Linder. This may just well be an understatement. Unlike many shows, it is the entire troupe that makes this seamless ensemble performance such a thrilling and enlightening experience. Their whole performance is an astounding display of excellence, synchronization, excitement, precision and musicianship. When it comes to diversity Vocal Trash is, without a doubt, the ultimate variety show woven in urban tapestry. This talented team has been incorporating recycling into every show for years – long before “green” was cool. Part street performers, part recycling gurus, these entertaining personalities make upcycling and recycling fun for kids of all ages – and makes them one of the most positive role models in entertainment today. While not yet a household name, judging from their fan base it won’t take this Broadway-style stage show long to become one. Their show travels coast to coast, appearing at some of the country’s largest theaters, festivals and state fairs, and during their “off-season” they perform for major corporations like American Airlines. You might ask, “What does recycling have to do with a high energy variety show?” It starts with seven dedicated musicians, extensively trained in the performing arts, who like to get their point across by playing car parts, trash cans, lids, water bottles, barrels, pots, buckets and brooms. Their ‘point,’ featured in their song lyrics and their one-of-a-kind instruments constructed from recycled materials, is that this ‘green team’ is out to save the planet! Please read the amazing testimonials from clients, and check out this dynamic group on their website at: www.vocaltrash.net. ###

Coral Gables, FL (May 26, 2011) A new research study conducted by University of Miami Frost School of Music’s Music Engineering Technology Group touches upon multi-touch surfaces as emerging valuable tools for collaboration, display, interaction, and musical expression. The study will be presented at the 2011 International Conference on New Instruments for Musical Expression in Oslo, Norway this month.

A Low-Cost, Low-Latency Multi-Touch Table with Haptic Feedback for Musical Applications, authored by Matthew Montag GMuE ’11 (Cedar Rapids, IA), Stefan Sullivan GMuE ’12 (Erie, PA), Scott Dickey (MuE ’11, Northbrook, IL) and Professor Colby Leider, discusses how multi-touch surfaces tend to be costly. They also tend to suffer from two drawbacks for music performance: (1) relatively high latency owing to their sensing mechanism, and (2) lack of haptic feedback. The authors analyze the latency present in several current multi-touch platforms, and describe a new custom system that reduces latency to an average of 30 ms while providing programmable haptic feedback to the user. The paper concludes with a description of ongoing and future work.

The International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression is currently in its 11th year. Researchers and musicians from all over the world gather to share their knowledge and late-breaking work on new musical interface design.
