6th India Radio Forum – RED FM & Suryan FM Get 12 ERA Awards

Mumbai May 27, 2011: History repeated itself at the 6th India Radio Forum as Red FM Network and Suryan FM grabbed 12 Excellence in Radio Awards. Red FM Mumbai bagged the Best FM Station award for the third year in a row. Morning No.1 bagged the award for the Best Breakfast Programme/ Show (Hindi) for the 4th year in a row with RJ Malishka being adjudged the RJ of the Year (Hindi) for the 4th time!!

The much awaited India Radio Forum (IRF) 2011 concluded amidst great fanfare and aplomb yesterday. It was time once again for the stalwarts of the Radio industry to take centre stage. The much awaited awards ceremony was a high octane affair, with Red 93.5 FM Network sweeping away maximum number of honors at the IRF this year!

A great encore for RED 93.5 FM Network followed after announcing every category as the station for expression kept going back to receive the awards. The station hogged the limelight amidst an air of excitement and cheering as curtains came down with the announcement of the Best FM Station!

Red 93.5 FM Network bagged awards like Best Breakfast Show (Hindi); Best RJ of the Year (Hindi). Whereas the extremely popular campaign Malishka Ka Jasoos bagged three awards – Best Creative Campaign; Best Media Campaign and Best interactive Campaign. Red FM’s Baccha Party Aa Gayee Hai was adjudged the Best Radio Sparkler (Hindi). Red FM Hyderabad picked up gold for the Best Radio Promo: In House (Telugu) for its Kitty Party Promo. Suryan FM Chennai won the gold for Best Radio Programme/ Show Packaging- Music Day Jingle. RED FM Bangalore also won the award for Most Effective Use of Radio in an Activation Campaign – Stars On Streets Campaign.

In the advertising category, two campaigns executed on Red FM picked up awards for Most Outstanding Use of Radio in an Advertising Campaign for Idea Cellular’s Muthuswamy Campaign and Best CSR initiative from an Advertiser – RED Cares that was sponsored by Balmer Lawrie. Muthuswamy Campaign was a campaign that combined elements of storytelling and interactivity as listeners across cities came together to help a lovelorn citizen from Chennai hunt for his love in Mumbai. Red Cares was a campaign that Red FM Kolkata ran wherein we collected old clothes and donated them to destitute people in Kolkata.

94.3 MY FM celebrates 4th anniversary in Jaipur with Koshish Dil Se for saving water

New Delhi, June 02, 2010: As 94.3 MY FM turned four with the anniversary of its first station in Jaipur, the radio station continued its resolve of celebrating occasions through CSR initiatives under ‘Koshish Dil Se’. 94.3 MY FM Jaipur took up the cause of water scarcity, a vital issue in the state of Rajasthan. The activities also marked the maturation of the medium in these markets where people are now ready to embrace the role of radio at a level much higher than mere entertainment.

94.3 MY FM’s OB jocks went around town with water tankers supplying water to various colonies while interacting with the residents about the shortage of water and ways and means to use water efficiently. Residents of the city were required to SMS their name and locality to call for these tankers. The total of 350 households of Jaipur was approached for water distribution.

The celebration also included an interesting contest where the on-air RJ made a pledge to save water and the listeners had to call in and repeat the pledge. Lucky winners who took the pledge were gratified with mobile handsets.

Taking this activity to next level, the station also talked about water born diseases & hence the importance of the usage of clean water at home, especially for drinking. There were different contests around this issue and around 100 water purifiers from OSO water system were given away to winners.

The entire set of activities took place during the week of celebrations of MY FM Jaipur’s anniversary on May 28, 2010. Residents of the Pink City joined in the celebrations and the honorable CM Sh. Ashok Gehlot had words of appreciation for the efforts of MY FM.

94.3 My FM Chandigarh engages kids by organizing the biggest summer camp in the city

New Delhi, May 29, 2010: 94.3 MY FM Chandigarh becomes the first radio in the city to organized the biggest summer camp for the kids. This is a great way to keep kids active by putting them on a schedule that allows them to have fun and learn, while getting out of the classroom setting.

My Summer Camp started on 25th May 2010 and will continue till 14th June. The camps are set up at three different venues covering the city & adjoining areas ie Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. Total of around 300 students are participating in the camp of different age groups from 5 to 16 years which will help their varied ideas take shape into meaningful work.

To make it more engaging & exciting for kids, activities like Horse Riding has also been included.. This is being offered for the first time in Chandigarh, as a special initiative of My FM, supported by the Horse Riding Club of Chandigarh. Kids will also be trained in swimming at Hotel Mount View, a five star hotel where My FM Rjs would accompany them.

Another attraction for kids in this camp is RJ TRAINING by My FM Rjs along with personality development and makeovers by the experts. Other activities like music, art and craft, dance and theater workshops would also be organized. These activities will give children an opportunity to express themselves in a very creative and fine manner under the monitoring and supervision of the experts.

2010 Awards Ceremony Event to Induct Leonard cohen, JACKIE DESHANNON, DAVID FOSTER, JOHNNY MANDEL and earth, wind & fire’s maurice White, philip bailey, verdine white, larry dunn and al mckay

New York, NY – February 16, 2010 – Leonard Cohen, Jackie DeShannon, David Foster, Johnny Mandel and Earth, Wind & Fire’s Maurice White, Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Larry Dunn and Al McKay will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame this year, SHOF Chairman/CEO Hal David announced today. The organization, which is dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of those composers and lyricists who create popular music around the world, returns for its highly anticipated 41st annual induction and awards dinner, scheduled for Thursday, June 17 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Special award honorees will be announced at a later date.

“Our 2010 inductees are truly representational of the heart and soul of the world’s Popular Music soundtrack,” commented Chairman/CEO Hal David. “We are looking forward to another memorable evening where we honor their extraordinary accomplishments.”

Leonard Cohen: Leonard Cohen received the Grammy 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of his legendary career of artistic accomplishments in songwriting and performing. Over 2,000 covers of Cohen’s songs have been recorded by artists such as R.E.M., Bob Dylan, Elton John, Judy Collins, Willie Nelson and most recently, Justin Timberlake’s rendition of “Hallelujah” that appeared on Cohen’s 1984 Various Positions album. Cohen always had an interest in music, but it wasn’t until 1966 that his focus turned to songwriting after gaining international recognition for his poetry. Before he released a single song, Cohen sold the highly successful “Suzanne” to Judy Collins which later was included on his debut album, The Songs of Leonard Cohen in 1967 along with “Sisters of Mercy,” and “So Long, Marianne.” His next two albums, Songs from a Room and Songs of Love and Hate solidified Cohen’s iconic status with “Bird on a Wire” and “Famous Blue Raincoat.” His multidimensional lyrics have captured fans spanning generations and nationalities for decades. He was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (2006) and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2008) for his outstanding work. Cohen’s world tour, which inaugurated in May 2008, is still playing to sold-out crowds.

Jackie DeShannon: Singer-songwriter Jackie DeShannon is best known as the soulful voice behind two of the 1960s most enduring, era-defining anthems – Burt Bacharach & Hal David’s “What The World Needs Now Is Love” and DeShannon’s own “Put A Little Love In Your Heart.” Her songs have been performed by such artists as Al Green, Annie Lennox, Van Morrison, Brenda Lee, The Carpenters, The Temptations, Marianne Faithfull, The Searchers, Ella Fitzgerald and Bruce Springsteen. In the early 1960s, Jackie partnered with Sharon Sheeley on dozens of songs (“Dum Dum,” “The Great Imposter,” “Breakaway,” “You Won’t Forget Me”). Collaborations followed with Randy Newman, Jack Nitzsche, Jimmy Page and John Bettis. In 1964, Jackie toured as an opening act for the Beatles. Writing solo, she composed the hits “When You Walk In The Room” and “Come And Stay With Me.” She earned a million-seller in 1969 with “Put A Little Love In Your Heart,” written with Randy Myers and Jimmy Holiday. DeShannon won a Grammy for Song of the Year in 1982 for “Bette Davis Eyes” with writing partner Donna Weiss.

David Foster: To say that everything David Foster touches turns to gold—and usually platinum—would be an understatement. This stunningly talented songwriter is a 15-time Grammy Award winner with an unprecedented 46 nominations, a recipient of seven Juno Awards, an Emmy Award in 2004 and a three-time Oscar nominee, all over the course of four extraordinarily successful decades. Foster’s career path soared in the 1980’s as he produced and wrote an extraordinary lineup of No. 1 singles, including Chicago’s “Hard To Say I’m Sorry,” Peter Cetera’s “The Glory of Love,” and John Parr’s “Man in Motion” (St. Elmo’s Fire soundtrack). In 2007 he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Foster has worked with the biggest and best talents in the music industry, including Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Barbra Streisand, Michael Buble’, Seal, Earth, Wind & Fire, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston and many more. Johnny Mandel: Johnny Mandel, the five-time Grammy recipient and Oscar and Emmy Award winner is a composer, arranger, instrumentalist and record producer living a life totally steeped in musical achievement. As a teenager, Mandel was a member of Joe Venuti’s orchestra, followed by employment as a player and/or arranger in bands led by Henry Jerome, Buddy Rich, Jimmy Dorsey, Woody Herman and Artie Shaw. In the late 1940s and early 50s, Mandel was an arranger and composer for radio and the new medium of TV. At the same time, he played trombone and wrote arrangements for the Count Basie Orchestra. The West Coast recording scene beckoned Johnny in 1954 where he began arranging sessions for stars like Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Mel Tormé, Jo Stafford, Tony Bennett, Chet Baker and Andy Williams. Hollywood film assignments began coming in for Mandel as well, beginning with the all-Jazz score he composed for I Want to Live in 1958. Many Mandel film scores have followed, among them The Americanization of Emily, The Sandpiper, M*A*S*H*, Being There and The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming. Mandel-composed standards include “The Shadow of Your Smile,” “Emily,” “Where Do You Start?” and “Close Enough for Love.” In recent years, Mandel’s career has continued to flourish as he has remained busy producing and arranging recordings for Natalie Cole, Diana Krall and, most recently, for Barbra Streisand and Willie Nelson, among many others.

When all campaigns, on the importance of voting and the difference it can make, end, RED FM’s Vote – Karega Ya Karvaaon? begins!
Yeh gundagardi nahi hai!

This election season, RED FM, the station for expression, has a simple but solid proposition – Vote – Karega ya Karvaaon? Starting April 6, RED FM urges citizens to take this once-in-five-years opportunity to make a real difference to our nation.

With all the endless ‘Vote Karo! Vote Karo!’ messages by celebrities prior to the elections; the actual turn out at polling booths is minimal. RED FM takes its initiative a step ahead to actually get voters to vote on Election Day!

RED FM Bajaao for a Cause, has rolled out an extensive plan for the upcoming elections which uses peer pressure and mass involvement to encourage people to vote. Starting April 6, on-air promos will urge listeners to take responsibility of voters in their social groups – be it their society, office, etc. Between April 6 and April 18, each show will tie-up with NGOs to answer queries and doubts on the elections.

April 18 onwards, the RED FM RJs along with celebrities, will personally go door-to-door and remind people to VOTE.

The initiative reaches its crescendo on April 30, Election Day, with the RED FM team going to people’s homes and getting them out to vote. For their on-air initiative, RED FM will speak to people at the voting booths, i.e. people with ‘dots’ on their fingers, those who get their entire society to vote and those who are being forced by the RED FM team to go out and vote!!

Commenting on the initiative, Anuj Singh, National Marketing Head and Station Head (Mumbai), Red FM, said, “Red FM is known for always doing things differently! Our aim is to raise issues that affect the common man and drive action, in this case, albeit forcefully! In a city like Mumbai, awareness of the elections is not the issue, the issue is inclination and motivation to actually go out and vote. And with this initiative we will make sure people go and vote!!”
