Hockey’s Mind Chaos out June 23rd
Hockey’s Mind Chaos out June 23rd
Portland quartet, Hockey has conquered the streets of New York and London and are set to take on the summer festival scene with apperances at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and Sasquatch! For those of you across the pond check them out at The Great Escape, Oxegen, Peace and Love and T in the Park. Their explosive debut album, Mind Chaos, is out June 23rd on Capitol Records and armed with these Festival dates they are sure to have hoards of followers soon. Mind Chaos is a journey that continues to unravel with each lush layer of inventive sound. From their debut single, “Too Fake” to “3 AM Spanish” Hockey schools their audience about the science of funky composition honoring the bands’ spirited commitment to both the fluidity of rap and the angst of Combat Rock-influenced punk.
Bassist Jeremy Reynolds met vocalist Ben Grubin while attending the University of Redlands in California. The two instantly clicked musically and Hockey was formed. Grubin and Reynolds, who were both close to graduating, picked-up and moved to Spokane, WA in search of the band’s missing pieces. Drummer Anthony Stassi and guitarist Brian White, with their keen ability to actualize the fullness of Grubin’s vision, transformed Hockey into a full band. “New York City has had an influence on us,” the singer asserts. “A lot of my production influences do come from New York. But lyrically,” he amends, “The place was Spokane.” The collective has since moved to their current home of Portland.Tune into FUEL TV on Monday, May 4th at 6 PM (Pacific) for an exclusive live performance from the band.
“Hockey is a new signee that plays unbelievably unself-conscious, balls-out pop-rock. Just try to resist the chorus of its song “Too Fake.” You can’t. See them now while they’re still playing small rooms.”- Time Out New York
“Witty, literate songs you can dance to…and they do effect a collision of opposites that is quite unprecedented.” -The Guardian UK
“Hockey as an almost unprecedented [fusion between] arty cool dance and shameless pop.”-Anthem Magazine
