NARM’S Outstanding Achievement Awards for Musical Collaboration Goes to LEIBER & STOLLER

LEIBER & STOLLER TO RECEIVE NARM’S OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR MUSICAL COLLABORATION
Their Critically Acclaimed Autobiography, “Hound Dog” Available on Paperback on June 1

WHO: Legendary songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller will receive The National Association of Recording Merchandisers (NARM) 2010 Outstanding Achievement Award for Musical Collaboration.

WHAT: Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller have been writing songs together for sixty years, attracting legendary artists as well as creating notable classics in a variety of genres including Rhythm & Blues, Pop, and most notably Rock & Roll.  Their contribution as songwriters and record producers have been so monumental that it is impossible to envision what American popular music would be like today without them.

Their career began in 1950, at the young age of 17, when Leiber and Stoller joined forces with a mutual passion for Blues, and within a couple of years they were supplying songs to legendary artists such as Big Mama Thorton, Jimmy Witherspoon, Little Esther, Charles Brown, Little Willi Littlefield, and Ray Charles.

Their success really took off after they caught the attention of Atlantic Records and were signed to the first independent production deal.  For the next decade, Leiber and Stoller’s wrote and produced hits like “Hound Dog”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “Stand By Me”, “Kansas City”, “Love Potion #9”, “There Goes my Baby”, “On Broadway”, among many, many others.

Leiber and Stoller have been the recipients of awards and honors, including inductions into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and their songs have been recorded by legendary artists such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, B.B. King, James Brown, Little Richard, The Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton just to name a few.

Their joint memoir, HOUND DOG: The Leiber and Stoller Autobiography, was written with David Ritz. HOUND DOG takes you on a musical journey through these music pioneer’s lives.  Including within their story are the personal and professional friendships, and encounters with Tennessee Williams, Elvis, Chet Baker and James Dean to name a few.  Rich in anecdotes from the golden age in pop music, the autobiography of these two musical geniuses is a must-read for anyone who ever danced to a 45 record or sang along with a transistor radio.  The paperback will be released the first week of June.
