PAXAHAU AND 323 EAST LAUNCH CONTEST
PAXAHAU AND 323 EAST LAUNCH CONTEST TO FIND BRAND DESIGNER FOR DETROIT’S 2009 ELECTRONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL.
Interactive Online Contest Democratizes Festival Aesthetic, Creates New Jobs
Detroit, January 6th, 2009 - As Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival, recently named festival of the year by URB Magazine, quickly approaches its 10th edition, Paxahau, the production company responsible for the landmark event, wants to democratize the creative direction of the festival. Today Paxahau announces their recent collaboration with 323East, an art & fashion boutique in Royal Oak, MI, to launch an interactive online contest aimed at discovering the 2009 Festival Brand Designer.
The digital / visual artwork contest is seeking an artist, designer, or creative individual from the metro Detroit area to be the Brand Designer for Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival. The Brand Designer is responsible for the overall visual aesthetic of the event, including festival advertising, t-shirts, banners and the website. The winner will receive the Brand Designer title for 2009, $5,000, a VIP chalet for family and friends at the event, and a gift bag with festival gear.
The contest is simple. People visit paxahau.com to enter by submitting their resume or bio, a 1-2 minute video, and a sample of visual artwork designed by them and themed on the festival. Anyone can visit the contest site and vote for their favorite designs.
“Our main goal was to create jobs for Detroit’s creative community,” said Jason Huvaere, festival director. “Coming into our 10th edition of the festival, and our fourth year producing it, we thought it would be a great idea to ask the audience to show what the festival means to them and have them vote on it.”
323 East’s Jason Schultz said the contest “is a perfect fit for us. Our slogan is Art, Fashion, Lifestyle. This collaboration with Paxahau is an opportunity to embrace that slogan and keep doing what we’ve always done, which is to support and empower the art community.”
Ohm Creative Group (www.ohmdigital.com) was recruited to design & program the robust contest site. Submissions for the contest begin December 29th and end Sunday, February 15th at 11:59pm. The top ten contestants, ranked by votes, will be announced Monday, February 16th at 12:00pm. For more information on artwork guidelines and deadlines please visit www.paxahau.com. Make sure to stay tuned for more of Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival contests, including vote for your DJ - where one stage line-up will be voter driven.
